1. The Opening Act

Kishore’s journey as a storyteller began with a bold leap into Bombay’s vibrant theatre scene, joining Dinesh Thakur’s theatre troupe “Ank” and making his mark on celebrated stages like the Prithvi Theatre and Shanmukhananda Hall Auditorium.

2. Taking Root in Cinema / Planted in Celluloid

Kishore’s cinematic path began on the iconic sets of Gandhi, learning the craft under acclaimed filmmaker Sir Richard Attenborough and his team of global visionaries. This was followed by mentorship under cinematic masters like Ismail Merchant, James Ivory, Peter O’Toole, Omar Sharif, Peter Duffell, and Nicholas Meyer on films such as The Far Pavilions, The Jungle Book, Kim, In Custody, Mountbatten: The Last Viceroy, and The Young Indiana Jones—sharpening his skills in direction, visual storytelling, and the perseverance vital to producing.

3. Stepping Into His Own

Drawing from years of hands-on experience and deep exposure to international cinema, Kishore founded KR Films International Production: an ambitious step toward producing and directing original narratives driven by his creative vision.

4. Breaking Into Broadcast

KR Films made a powerful foray into television with Maila Aanchal, an award-winning adaptation of Phanishwar Nath Renu’s beloved literary classic, honoured as Best Show by the Indian Minister of Information & Broadcasting. The success of this first series sparked a prolific run of long-format storytelling with acclaimed shows like Detective Karan, Noorie, Humsafar The Train, Faujji The Iron Man, and many more.

5. At the Crossroads of Story and Strategy: Welcoming Our CEO

With unwavering business acumen, Reena Dang joined KR Films as Chief Executive Officer, seamlessly complementing Kishore’s creative vision and propelling the company toward new horizons—all while shattering glass ceilings in a traditionally male-dominated industry.

6. Into the Heart of Reality

Kishore immersed himself in the lives of tribal communities, capturing their stories with authenticity through documentaries like Sugalis-Lambadis and The Yurva of Coorg. KR Films also produced socially resonant short films including Aakhri Dastak—a tribute to the Indian Armed Forces exploring the life of a soldier living with HIV/AIDS—and Kab-Tak, shedding light on the life of a rag-picker and officially selected for the Mumbai International Film Festival.

Lived with the Yurva people for several months — learning and unlearning.

7. A Defining Honor

Kishore was invited to serve as a jury member at the prestigious 53rd Indian National Film Awards—a landmark year that honoured legends like Amitabh Bachchan (Black) and Subhash Ghai (Iqbal), marking Kishore’s presence among the nation’s most discerning cinematic voices.
